This apartment is situated in the beautiful Chianti hill country in the picturesque hamlet of Montebuoni. The location is superb but as with so much of rural Italy a car is essential for getting around. I enjoyed having an agreeably spacious and spotlessly clean place to myself and I would stay there again. However, there were some negatives that detracted from my experience, some of which can be addressed. When I arrived there was no hot water. An inauspicious start. Someone had failed to leave the switch properly on. There was no kettle to make a cup of tea. These issues were dealt with swiftly by a responsive support team. But I wonder is there a slip shod approach to overall maintenance/ comfort. The door to the shower was stiff. The dodgy lock on the door needed attention and I had always difficulty in making sure the apartment was locked when I left. On one or two occasions I gave up. A small coffee table would come in handy. There was a TV providing exclusively Italian channels - a surfeit of the shopping variety - and while one doesn't go on vacation to watch TV one might have expected English speakers to be accommodated with BBC or CNN to keep abreast of a volatile world. The towels, large bath towels and large pool towels were a plus though. Living in the UK ( the north of Ireland, actually ) I did have occasion to phone the apartment's representatives in London a couple of times before my trip and I got through immediately and had my queries addressed without any difficulty.

There are numerous excellent reasonably priced restaurants in nearby villages and towns in which one can savour the uniqueness of this incredibly attractive part of Italy where one is made to feel very welcome. I ate out every night and enjoyed every dinner immensely. One knows in advance that a car is necessary and that is fine.
